Now, this doesn’t have to be a night. This could be a dinner. A lunch. An afternoon tea and scones. Whatever takes your fancy. The idea being… take some time, to mindfully spend some quality time with your partner. Don’t let yourself get caught in the daily routines that lead you to losing track of yourselves as people, replaced by this vague persona of “parent”.
Parent is a role (and an important one!), not a personality.
Don’t you forget it, and make it so your partner doesn’t forget it. Talk about the things you both used to do, the things you both want to do again, the things that make you, you!! Some things do need to pause, but keep that stuff alive (either through self-care, or through talking
about it with your partner).
